Day 3

Day 3- Up early again, on the road by 7:30, on our way to Crater Lake, Oregon. Took the advise of some fellow bikers and rode the back roads from John Day to Prinville. Windy, narrow road for 140 km. We only saw 3 motorcycles and 4 cars. Made us think what would happen if we broke down in such a deserted location. Just meant more beer breaks with out interference of State troopers. After Bend we rode on another scenic byway past a ski hill and snowmobile area..There was so much snow they were still snowmobiles heading out. We thought that would be the end of our snow experience. Then on our way along, we thought we might camp at Crater Lake so headed down the highway stopping for supper in a little hick town before the state park. As we rode up towards Crater Lake, we noticed snow on the sides of the road. It got deeper and deeper until the banks were 25 ft high. We took several pics to prove it. It was amazing!! Crater Lake was absolutely beautiful! Its amazing how there can be such a huge pristine lake at such a high elevation in the middle of no where Thus no camping in the park!!! We rode on further to Stewart State park where we are camping for the night! Off to the California coast tomorrow!!! Lots of sunshine, blue skies and warm temps today. We rode 770 km today, 50% of which was windy, twisty fun for Mike roads.....

Minor Incident

Started our ride in 25 degree heat again and by 10:00 it was over 30. However, by 1:00 the temp reached a high of 42 degrees. Rode thru orange groves and grape vine wineries. Stopped at a local fruit stand for some fresh peaches and plums. We thought the California Red Woods were huge until we rode through the Sequoia National forest. Unbelievable!!! From there we rode through Yosemite National Park. Waterfalls and huge mountains were amazing. Snow still at the summit and the temp dropped to 8 degrees. The sudden changes in temperature is hard to get used to. Mike looked at the map and realizes that we are a LONG way from home so we rode until 10:30 tonight. Long after dark down here. Good thing I was watching the signs or we would be in Reno by now. Lol. GPS led us astray for the first time. Tomorrow will be another long ride if we ever ...
